Monthly Archives: January 2014

As we head now into yet another new year, 2013 will remain forever a special one for us. Not only was it the year we set out on this gardening adventure, we also welcomed the birth of our beautiful daughter Zoé – She was of course one of the main driving forces for originally starting the patch in the first place.

A while between posts here on TVPD though alot has happened in the garden since. We have extended the patch to the front of the yard building new raised beds as well as experimenting growing various edibles in containers and pots. Container growing not only being heaps of fun, has really opened our eyes to the possibilities of ‘growing your own’ in limited sized living spaces or urban environments. You’d be surprised how much one tomato plant in a pot can yield if nurtured correctly!

When we started our edible garden we weren’t looking to live entirely off of it but rather reduce our green spend, green waste, learn more and of course have fun together as a family whilst doing it. Now with the patch healthy and in full swing we are probably now growing 80% of our vegetable intake. Not only does this reduce the weekly grocery bill, the food is much fresher, tastes better and we have learned to prepare and eat our meals with the seasons.

Below are a series of photographs from in and about the veggie patch since we last wrote. If you make it all the way to the end we’ve listed every vegetable, fruit and herb we’ve planted out in the garden to date along with the types, which may help you If you’re thinking of starting your own space.

Thinking of giving it a go and don’t know where to start? Drop us a line we’d be more than happy to help you out in answering any questions you may have!
