We are now officially into spring and the warmer weather is bringing about much change to our now well established plot. Reflecting on our first full season of home gardening we’ve been quite fortunate and haven’t suffered too many casulties in the patch. The main issue we encountered over the past cooler months was the dreaded cabbage moth which took a liking to our silverbeet, cauliflower and broccoli. On commencemnet of our gardening endeavour we agreed to keep organic, both methods in fertilising and the handling of pests. After experimenting with a few organic solutions, Dipel was the one we settled on and that worked best for us. The added bonus it is totally safe to beneficial insects and bees which are paramount to a successful veggie patch.

With Spring well and truly here we’ve been busy expanding our growing capacity, prepping the next seasons seeds and nuturing our little seedlings into good health which will soon be ready to join the ranks of the patch. I hear from experienced gardeners the warmer months yeild quite a considerable amount of produce, if winter was anything to go by fingers crossed we’ll be just as successful with the next season’s harvest!
