Currently on exhibition at the Gallery Of Modern Art in Brisbane is Matisse: Drawing Life, the most comprehensive presentation of Henri Matisse’s original drawings & prints ever mounted. Also to complement the exhibition there is ‘The Drawing Room’, an interactive large-scale drawing studio for visitors, inspired by Matisse and his working environments.
If you live locally and haven’t already been I highly recommend it, though be sure to choose a day when they have the life models to draw from to complete the experience.
My line drawing is the purest and most direct translation of my emotion. The simplification of the medium allows that. At the same time, these drawings are more complete than they may appear to some people who confuse them with a sketch.
The idea stemmed during a week long surf trip in late 2010. We were living simple in a friends family beachside shack, minus the distractions of computers or televisions and armed with a notebook & pen, we laid down the foundations of what would be ‘Chez Beauvardia’.
Set to launch early next year almost a year from those original note takings, we are ready to share our plans with you. Chez Beauvardia will involve our passions for fine art, photography, home decor & DIY, combined with our mutual love and respect of the ocean & accompanying lifestyle.
We were recently in Melbourne for a night and got a glimpse of Max’s public installment with Sony / Vice Magazine and the NEX Project. Max makes some pretty sweet jeans and did I mention he’s a great bloke too so make sure you check out his site notetoself.com.au
It has been well over a month now since leaving NOUS and embarking on my own journey as a freelance designer/photographer. Waxlyric has been a registered name and my creative pseudonym since 2001 when I started my first blog… 10 years that long ago. It would only be fair to myself to continue creating under Waxlyric as it has helped shape who I am today as a designer, which leads me to the subject of brand repositioning.
You may have noticed a new-look to the blog transitioning of the past couple of weeks, the previous Waxlyric branding has now been adopted by my design business which is trading under waxlyric.com.au (note the .com.au domain extension). The .com blog will continue to function as a creative outlet for non specific work, a sort of personal sketchbook, whereas the .com.au version will continue to grow as my business site, showcasing commercial only work.
If you are interested in graphic design, for packaging, print or web, maybe you are in need of photography or video components to spice up a campaign, please head on over to waxlyric.com.au and drop me a line, I’m always interested in discussing new work and or collaborative opportunities. Matt.
