We have now arrived safely back home in Switzerland and I am happy to now share with you the next chapter of ‘The Veggie Patch Diaries’, the Swiss Edition.
Since the winter frosts have thawed, my mother-in-law in preparation of our return has been busy planting out the potager for us to manage over the summer months. It is already full of abundance including many types of vegetables and well established fruit trees; apples, pears & blackberries to name a few.
Their beautifully restored home was once a working ‘maison vigneronne’, winemakers house surrounded by a thriving vineyard located in Les Tuileries-de-Grandson, a district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud, french speaking Switzerland (See above photograph from circa 1950, with their homestead in the foreground).
During the Burgundian Wars, Charles the Bold was defeated near here in the Battle of Grandson in 1476. Recent artifacts uncovered nearby suggest inhabitants as early as 2741-2488 BC, Neolithic period so there is some pretty heavy history around here, I’m confident the soil will prove fertile.
We’re really looking forward to share again through the TVPD blog our next gardening adventure, an exciting new learning experience in a completely different part of the world. We hope again to inspire more people to take up tools, give it a go and grow their own, enjoy.
